How To Find Oliver BG3
16 August 2026 | 80
Navigating the dangerous Act 2 landscape of Baldur's Gate 3 requires players to explore dark areas to break the regional curse. One crucial character hidden within these shadows is Oliver, a mysterious tiefling child who plays a vital role in Halsin's companion questline. Tracking down this elusive boy is necessary if you want to fully restore the environment and heal the land.
Locating the House in Deep Shadows
To begin your search for the shadow-touched child, you must venture into the eastern portion of the Ruined Battlefield region. Players should look for an abandoned homestead known as the House with Flowers or the House in Deep Shadows. The dilapidated building stands out due to its decaying structure surrounded by eerie glowing flora.
As you approach the coordinate area, your party members might trigger automatic perception checks to notice the unsettling atmosphere. Stepping inside the ruined walls will immediately trigger a cinematic cutscene introducing the strange young boy. He will eagerly ask you to stay and participate in a game of hide and seek with him.
Winning the Hide and Seek Game
Accepting the boy's challenge starts a multi-phase mini-game that requires careful positioning and tactical awareness. For the first round, the child will cast an invisibility spell and run to a nearby hiding spot behind a cart outside. You can naturally track his movement or use a See Invisibility potion to locate his position and talk to him again.
The second round increases the difficulty drastically by spawning hostile shadow entities that patrol the immediate area. It is highly recommended to group your party members tightly or use turn-based mode to sneak past the shadows without triggering combat. Finding him a second time without getting spotted will earn you the valuable Ring of Shadows as a unique quest reward.
Connecting Oliver to Halsin Questline
While meeting the boy early provides great loot, his true purpose is tied directly to the Lift the Shadow Curse quest. Players will eventually discover that this child is actually the missing half of Thaniel, the ancient spirit of the land. You will need to recruit the druid Halsin to your active party to progress this overarching narrative forward.
If you already defeated his shadow family during your initial visit, you will eventually have to return to confront him after defending the portal. He will escape through a shadow portal, forcing your party to follow him into a difficult defensive combat encounter. Calming his anger and convincing him to reunite with Thaniel is the final step in saving the region.
